Odyssey Math: Leading students through the exciting and challenging landscape of math.

Odyssey Math: Grades K–5

Children in grades K–5 are still developing the foundations for future mathematics skills, so catching and holding their attention while introducing new skills and concepts is essential. Odyssey illustrates concepts verbally and visually, teaching and reviewing concepts and helping students prepare for success in algebra in later years.

Students learn:

  • Working with two- and three-dimensional shapes
  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponents
  • Spatial sense
  • Length, weight, and capacity
  • Identifying patterns
  • Data analysis and probability
  • Transformations and symmetry
  • Fractions, decimals, ratios, and percents

Odyssey Math Intervention: Grades 5–6

Recent research from the National Mathematics Advisory Panel indicates that students must master essential components within the elementary mathematics curriculum to succeed in algebra later. To help ensure that students are sufficiently prepared, CompassLearning created a curriculum for grades 5 and 6 that is based on proven Response to Intervention (RtI) strategies to maximize student achievement.

This curriculum addresses students’ needs based on requirements in one of three tiers:

  • Tier I (Benchmark): Students who, while generally making good progress, may be experiencing temporary or minor instructional difficulties
  • Tier II (Strategic): Students who are functioning below grade-level standards and who need additional systematic and explicit instructional support
  • Tier III (Intensive): Students who are seriously at risk of failure, have demonstrated chronically low performance on multiple measures of instructional proficiency, and also need systematic and explicit instructional support
